For the past three years, DuChateau has been one of the design firm, Gensler’s sponsors for Canstruction, a charitable organization that helps fight hunger by “feeding and inspiring the world – one can at a time.”
Not only is Canstruction a community drive, but also an artistic one. Each year, Gensler gathers local architects, engineers, planners and design firms, as well as students, to help create phenomenal artistic structures out of the donated cans. This year the Orange County team lead by Gensler built a lighthouse from the cans with the theme, “A Beacon of Hope to Fight Hunger.” There is even judging for categories such as Best Use of Labels, Beast Meal, and Structural Integrity.
Over 4,000 cans of food will go to the Orange County Food Bank once the sculpture is taken down on September 28th, 2014. But before it all comes down, you can see the structure on display at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California. DuChateau is ecstatic that this event was so very successful for such a very important cause.
